South America is an Orchid paradise!. There are many species of this beautiful flower. The Orchid family comprises approximately 30,000 species, and perhaps another 60,000 hybrids, and other varieties produced by horticulturists, making it one of the most species-rich families. Venezuela has more than 1500 species of orchids, being one of the countries with the largest number of known Cattleyas species. After an exhaustive investigation by the Venezuelan Society of Natural Sciences, it was declared the  national flower on May 23, 1951, by presidential decree of the then president of the Board of Government Germán Suárez Flamerich. William Cattley, who in 1818 grew the first bulbs of this plant in England, gave it its name, Cattleya Mossiae. Nowadays, thanks to its adaptation, this beautiful flower is mostly found around the world, however, its greatest abundance is in the tropics of Latin America. The Cattleya has been selected by Meridiano 67 ° to shine with beautiful colors, elegance and femininity that represent the joy and passion of the south.
