Macaws, Guacamayas or Guacamayos, as we know them in most of Latin America, are a family of parrots. Most of these birds have very shiny plumage. Its color fits perfectly in the tropical jungles of Central and South America, with its green leaves and its fruit and flowers of bright colors harmonizing with the joy, sociability and festivity characteristic of South America.
Macaws elegantly show off their tails, which are very long. They are intelligent and social birds that usually gather in flocks of between 10 and 30 members. Their squawks and shrieks echo through the jungle. In addition, they vocalize to communicate with the other members of the flock, mark territory and identify with each other. Some species even mimic human speech.
Flocks sleep in trees at night and in the morning, they fly long distances to get fruits, nuts, insects and snails to feed on.
In Venezuela, the Ara Ararauna, Ara Macao, Ara Chloroptera and Ara Severa are distributed over a large part of its territory, the latter being native to Caracas, many of the others can also be seen in the skies, trees and balconies of our city.
